Note: This website is using CSS and other modern web techniques. Just as you migrated from DOS to a more modern operating system, perhaps it is time to use a newer browser. Anyway, we have tested this site with a variety of old browsers (1.0 browsers my have some trouble) and, while most of them will display the site's content, it may not be very pretty.
As we are all aware, most of the OS/2 user groups throughout the country have disappeared as user interest and vendor support have declined. Our Philadelphia group is one of the very few remaining active groups, but our membership has also been severely declining. The addition of Linux, with emphasis on end-user interests, fills a need in our metropolitan region, and should attract many new members, as well as renewing interest and participation by many of our original OS/2 users.
This expansion has been discussed at the past several monthly meetings, as well as among the board members. The overall consensus is that the expansion will enable us to learn about the technology and use of a new PC operating system which is rapidly developing and gaining popularity across the nation -- much the same way as OS/2 did in its early years.
Consistent with this move, it's also appropriate to change our name to the Philadelphia Alternate Systems User Group (PASUG), because we will also look at other new operating systems, such as BeOS.
